Keywords:HydrOxSys was established in June 2012 to commercialise dense film asymmetric membrane technology. There is a growing need for novel water purification concepts based on membrane filtration. Global businesses and local governments require water extraction solutions that are scalable and cost effective and can survive harsh industrial process streams. Our mission is to develop revolutionary technologies to meet these needs.
Current water purification processes are not designed to remove endocrine disrupting chemicals such as hormones, antibiotics, bisphenol and others. HydrOxSys technology focuses on the development of dense flat film membranes that can potentially exclude pharmaceuticals, pesticides and endocrine disrupting substances, while keeping a relatively high output.
A significant problem with current membrane technology when used for drinking water treatment, seawater desalination, waste water reclamation and the production of water for industrial purposes is biological, chemical and hydraulic membrane fouling. The technology addresses this issue. The membrane that has been developed will not grow bacteria on its surface and, because of its ability to tolerate almost any cleaning regime, the system can be cleaned with minimal downtime and without worrying about chemical damage to the membrane.
The membrane is also mechanically robust, being made a plastic related to Teflon.
A significant advantage of the HydrOxSys technology over other membrane based technologies is that it is a chemical process rather than relying on pressure to separate liquid from the solids. The consequence of this is that it significantly reduces energy costs. Energy savings of around 80% over reverse osmosis are possible. |
